Hey Boo!
Whew we are into the Fall and I thought my schedule would chill with the weather but here we are! I have done so much this summer, unfortunately doing a summer recap might include me telling a bit too much of my business on Beyonce’s internet so instead I thought I’d share some valuable lessons from the summer. But yea, girl we got a lot to cover so…
“Summer of Yes”
At the start of the summer a few of my single homegirls decided to embark on “The Last Summer”! It was a Tiktok I found and shared, essentially the concept was to treat the summer like it was your last summer single, childless or whatever. Ironically, it was a few of our last summer of our 20s as well. Eventually it ended up being my personal “Summer of Yes”, anytime someone asked “Who wants to go” I said YES! BABY talk about a world wind adventure that someday I’ll write a book about when it’s safe. This also was my first summer where my work schedule didn’t drastically change and nor did I need to be at work by 7:30am so IT WAS LIT! Amongst the parties & all the fun, there were 4 major themes and lessons of the summer.
Your routines will keep you sane!
I have come up with a pretty nice morning meditation/journaling routine. Amongst doing all the things this summer I stuck with it most of the time. Boy when I fell off of it for a bit, it definitely left me feeling all over the place. Keeping the routine I realized was grounding for me especially as life seemed to be speeding up was helpful for me. I’ll talk more about the routine next week, I think it’ll help all my girls on the go who need a morning grounding routine.
It is really okay to suck at things or drop the ball
Whew buddy with everything being a little less put together & scheduled this summer, it was inevitable that somethings would be dropped. I really wanted to do tennis but I wasn’t able to fully commit and I wasn’t that great which was kind of discouraging. There were other things that I dropped the ball that just let me know I needed reprioritize things. While there were some things that I dropped the ball that had me thinking like why were you even doing that?! My reframing for this was just to use it as an opportunity to reflect on it & reprioritize. Anything you dropped the ball on that made you go “well why was I even doing that?!”?
Vulnerability is a muscle that you have to keep exercising to strengthen
Being vulnerable is a newer skill I’m working on in therapy and real life. BOYYYYY, the way I’ve been screaming “I’m tired Grandpa”! I realized that this is just my lesson for this season and learning how much vulnerability it takes not only in dating but to also share your dreams & desires with others. I expanded my content this summer, was honest with sharing that I didn’t any career goals in my mid year review and just putting out my ideas in the atmosphere. Doing all of this has helped me a lot, it was very stretching and often left me exhausted but I can tell you I’m getting better at it even when my body tenses up afterwards.
Sometimes being unhinged will push you toward your path
Before the pandemic, I was very rigid I kept a tight schedule and routine. I was still having a good time but this summer would’ve drove that girl nuts! Having a ‘Summer of Yes’ created a very unhinged reality, never did I think I would do things like be out on a Wednesday or agreeing to same day dates. Funny thing is, it made for some really good content, I didn’t lose myself & it actually pushed me towards being my most free self. Which was the goal for the year “Freedom”! So I would say, “We Did It Joe”!
Did any of these lessons resonate with you? What summer lessons did you learn?
It is Target Circle Week!! This time around it seems to be worth it, I got some really cute boots 30% off! I will be sharing links all week to my stories on IG so be sure to stay tuned to that!
