Want to Listen to this Week’s Edition of But Yea… Instead?! Listen Here!
Hey Boos!
This summer I tell ya…It was a conundrum forreal forreal! I was appalled half the month of July because 30 was bout to knock right into me! Like I was just in high school, either way I had some great experiences the month leading up to 30 & while I can’t tell you all my business I want to share something new I adopted for the month leading up to my birthday in August but yea… I’m 30, now what?!
So in June, I remembered my therapist proposed me doing some future scripting to help with some mindset work and also to keep me hopeful/enthusiastic about my future. Especially as it pertains to dating cause that sh*t can be disturbing at times. In the past I’ve done 6 months to 1 year scripting but this time I thought I’d try daily scripting.
Essentially every morning I script how I’ll ideally would like my day to go. It includes things I need to do for the day but the main component is including how I want to feel while/after completing the tasks of the day. I write it like I am journaling at the end of the day talking about my day.
Here’s 3 things I’ve learned after doing this every morning for about a month:
I got the power!
“you possess an authority over what you feel” Whew! My homegirl Bre sent me this reel after I had been doing scripting for about a week. That quote helped me consider my scripting in a different way. I started to script with authority but also with the discipline to fully believe what I was writing & believe that I have the authority to be bigger than my anxious feelings. Though this is still a growth point for me but I’ve made so much growth in this area too. That’s something to celebrate! It allows me to imagine beyond my current circumstance, let’s me know I have the power to change the trajectory of my day through my mind & that regardless what God has for me is mine even if it doesn’t feel like that everyday!
I have more than 2 feelings LMAO
Before I script, I journal my initial thoughts and feelings. I use the feelings wheel (which I highly suggest) to check in first then I’ll basically dump any start of the day thoughts. In May and June, my thoughts were getting pretty jumbled all in my head with my work, dating, my “summer of yes”, finances, content & all that so I started consistently brain dump my thoughts not tasks. It worked really well & now I do it every morning to give me a fresh start before I jump into my script for the day.
I only can control my reactions
So most things I script come to pass but I have to remember that if I slip in things that include the actions of someone else I have to be expectant that while I hope this’ll go the way I wrote it doesn’t mean it will. Maybe the first like 2 weeks of this I would be devastated (like it’s high key embarrassing) LMAO Then I had to remember all I needed to do was do my part & believe what I wrote and God for the rest. (also see: “Breaking Up with the How”, love full circle moments) Hard pill to swallow for a girl who loves to be in control but a great life lesson never the less. I am still unlearning this control freak lesson!
So, the practice is definitely something I suggest everyone tries, especially my girls who can be a bit anxious. If you plan to try it, here’s the sequence I suggest:
Feelings Check-in /Brain Dump
Use the feelings wheel & dump thoughts and not tasks.
Meditate/Pray
“God what should be my focus for today?” Sometimes, most times…God tells me to chill out.
Script the day
Write about your day in past tense. Don’t forget to add how you want to feel, not just things you want to do!
I traveled to New York over the weekend for Culturecon, it was SO FUN! I didn’t travel at all this summer which is not my norm so now that I’ve had another dose of airport life, I want more! I am becoming a pro at this, the more I travel. Here’s a list of my travel must-haves, that I’m sure will come handy as the holidays approach. Check out my LTK for my travel essentials links!
That’s all for this week! If you’re over 30, tell me what new habits you’ve inherited that changed your mindset for your 30s. If you’re approaching 30, tell me what you’re looking forward to the most.
Be sure to share this week’s edition of But Yea… with your homegirls! I can’t wait to continue to grow this community so we can help each other!
See ya next Tuesday Babygirl!
